Cosmetology Career Considerations |
|
Students
interested in pursuing a career in Cosmetology or a related field should
consider all aspects of such a
decision. To become a Cosmetologist you must: Have dexterity and a sense of form,
balance and color. Enjoy working with the public and be able to follow
their directions. Stay
abreast of the latest styles and industry
techniques. Work hard to establish a clientele in order to reach your desired income. Learn business skills to
promote yourself and the spa's/salons you will work in.
Be committed
to finishing your education.
|
|
|
Cosmetology students should be aware that: |
|
The work can be
demanding, (standing with your hands
at shoulder level or leaning over a nail technicians station). An
investment may be required for advertising and promotions such as printing
business cards or a website. There will be exposure to various chemicals
and fumes which could cause allergic reactions. The practice of safety and sanitation
is essential for effective and successful performance within the industry.
Methods of compensation may vary including straight salary, salary
plus commission, straight commission, sliding scale commission, retail
commission and independent contracting (renting space and equipment from an
existing spa/salon). |
